Link OK update on Starfire tires after 2nd leg of PTCC in Subic...these are the same RSR 1.0 that is sold to the public, size 195/55-15. 1st leg I did about 340kms of racing in them. This last leg I did around 200. About 100 kms of that was stormy and wet track conditions. 1 set of tires held up very well after about 550 kms of racing abuse. One of the racers blew his front tire whilre cornering for no apparent reason so we are still investigating that. Maybe it was a defect or maybe it had been damaged before? I know of brand new Yokohama A048's blowing at BRC during BRC GT race also for no apparent reason so this can happen to expensive racing tires also. Tread wear rate is faster than average but that really depends on how you drive. Also you can extend the life by rotating. I need to replace mine already. After the tread was down to around 20%, I was still able to improve on my lap times with no overheating in the dry. Last Sunday, after the tread was pretty low already, we raced in a wet track and I was only 4.5 seconds slower. Although I was under- and over-steering already, the tires gave me good warning and I was able to slow and control them easily. The tire gives good feedback when it starts to lose grip so you can react easily. It's less noisy than average but gives good feel. I was able to improve my best lap time by 0.6 sec using a slightly softer set-up suspension. Tread design works well to prevent hydro-planing, no problem here. In the dry, you don't get that squirmy feeling like when you use other street tires. This tire will work well with street or sport set-up and drivers that are smooth and early brakers. It does not work well with drivers who like to late-brake hard. The ride is quite nice as its sidewalls are not that stiff, unike AD08 or AD07. Just don't pump up the tire pressure too much in racing, maybe @28psi or less depending. For street, maybe pump up to 32 psi cold. Good street/track tire of the money.
